All Japan BMX Race powered by Toyo Tires
June 27, 2023
Toyo Tires will be top sponsor for the 40th edition of the All Japan Cycling Championship BMX Racing. The event will be held at Oizumi Ryokuchi, Osaka Prefecture from Saturday, July 1 to Sunday, July 2.
BMX, an abbreviation of Bicycle Motocross, is a bicycle race said to have originated when children imitated motorcycle motocross competitions on bicycles. The competition is divided into a "race" where athletes speed through an undulating course, battling to finish first, and a "freestyle” challenge where riders show off their skills within a time limit, judged on originality and difficulty.
BMX racing is now an official Olympic sport, having been adopted after being introduced at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The freestyle element was added for the 2021 Tokyo games and following its successful introduction, has been adopted for future Olympics. Both disciplines will be contested at the Paris Olympics in 2024. As a result, recognition and enthusiasm for BMX competition is increasing all over the world.
Toyo Tires began sponsoring this tournament in 2018, becoming the top sponsor in 2019 and remaining top sponsor ever since. The 2023 tournament has a record number of entries, with riders from all over the country fighting to become the Japanese champion. Three athletes from Japan's first professional BMX team "Gan Trigger" Toyo Tires sponsored team, are scheduled to participate in this tournament.
As in 2022, Toyo Tires will set up a BMX experience space in the venue at the same time as the tournament, so that visitors, even those who have never experienced BMX before can participate in the fun and thrill of BMX.
