Innsbruck launch for Toyo Tires IFSC European partnership
June 16, 2023
This weekend sees the first event in Toyo Tires partnership with the International Federation of Sport Climbing commences. The Innsbruck event is the seventh round of the 2023 IFSC Climbing World Cup, which started in April this year in Hachioji, Japan.
At Innsbruck, climbers will compete in the Boulder and Lead disciplines. Boulder climbing, relying on power and technique, pits the competitors against a low, up to 4m high wall with several challenges. The climber who solves the greatest number of problems in the lowest number of attempts, is the winner. The problems are reset after the qualification round to create a new challenge for the competitors in the finals. In the finals, the athletes have two minutes to study the problems, following which they are held in isolation before making their “on sight” attempt. Innsbruck is the culmination of this year’s IFSC Boulder championship. The 2023 champion will be crowned at the conclusion of this event.
While it is the final round of the Boulder discipline, For Lead , it is the opening round. Aiming to get to the highest point, the athletes, secured by a rope, have six minutes to climb a 15 metre high, overhanging route. As with Boulder, after qualification, competitors are given a fixed period, in this case six minutes, to look at the route following which they are held in isolation before making their “on sight” attempt.
Toyo Tires has partnered with this exciting sport in 2023 and branding will be visible throughout the course. As this is the first event in the new partnership, all eyes will be focused on the action as Toyo Tires becomes an integral partner to the International Federation of Sport Climbing.
